An Inconvenient Truth in Oscars…..

An Inconvenient Truth
Global warming took center stage at the 79th Academy Awards, as An Inconvenient Truth won Academy Awards for Best Documentary and Best Original Song, and former Vice President Al Gore received plenty of air time to urge people around the world to take action now to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Earlier in the evening, Gore, who inspired and starred in the film, shared the stage with actor Leonardo DiCaprio for some banter about Gore's possible run for the presidency in 2008. Gore pretended he was about to announce his candidacy, but the music swelled and cut him off before he could finish. Amid the scripted remarks, however, Gore and DiCaprio exchanged what appeared to be heartfelt praise for the part each has played in raising public awareness about the dangers of global warming.

Technically, the Best Documentary Oscar was awarded to director Davis Guggenheim, but Gore joined Guggenheim and others on stage to accept the award. During his remarks, Gore urged people around the world to get personally involved in the fight to reduce global warming.
"This is not a political issue, it is a moral issue," Gore said. "We have everything we need, with the possible exception of the will to act. And that's a renewable resource. Let's renew it."

Melissa Etheridge won an Oscar for her song, "I Need to Wake Up," which she wrote for the film. In accepting the award, Etheridge thanked Gore for inspiring her and then offered a global call to action that echoed the lyrics of her Oscar-winning song: "We can be the generation that woke up, and did something, and changed."

My Insights
Honestly I haven’t watched this documentary because I got no time. But I’m pretty aware of the story in which it focuses in tremendous effects of Global Warning. This documentary is not just the typical documentary. This documentary concerns everyone, not just USA or other powerful countries. Instead it is a threat for everyone. As Al Gore stated: "This is not a political issue, it is a moral issue,". This is true, this is a serious problem and we should act now before it’s to late.

As the An Inconvenient Truth wins two Oscars, I’m hoping that it will not just inspire other people to create a movie that will feature the current status of our abused environment but also to teach people on how to value and protect the Earth that God has given us.
